Hilo rains are coming down
Hilo rains keep falling down
And I miss you, and I miss you
My tires they keep going ’round
While Hilo rains are falling down
And I miss you, and I miss you
And I don’t want to sound like a lovesick kid
But I’ve got to do again all the things that we did
I know if we just wait it out
We’ll be together in the Hilo rains again
The dark comes on before the sun
The rise and set roll into one
And I miss you, and I miss you
Your work keeps you so far from me
My own grindstone is all I see
And I miss you, and I miss you
And I don’t want to sound like a lovesick kid
But Iʻve got to do again all the things that we did
I know if we just wait it out
We’ll be together in the Hilo rains again
We’ll be together in the Hilo rains again
We’ll be together in the Hilo rains again
One weekend, it simply POURED the entire time Manu was visiting me. When it came time to take him to catch his flight to Oʻahu, I clung to his back as we rode my little Honda to the airport. After he headed into the terminal, I headed home in the rain. The streets were flooding, and as I rode along Bayfront, the police saw my headlamp in the mist and waited for me to pass before closing off each block. The water was so high, it created bow-waves over the toes of my boots. I got home, and over the drumming and hissing of the rain, I heard drops playing a melody on the tin roof. I picked up my guitar and plucked out the melody on the strings. That melody became the hook to this song.
